Visual Feedback for Voice and Speech

TheraVox is a visual feedback system for voice and speech therapy. It is a product consisting of a series of exercises for logopedic/speech therapy in which voice and speech elements like voicing/voice onset, loudness, articulation/coarticulation and prosody are transformed into real-time graphics. The patient gets a visual feedback for qualitative and quantitative attributes of his voice, which is of crucial importance for enhancing self-monitoring skills within the context of speech therapy.
TheraVox comes as a complete system with software, printed handbook and a tested USB microphone.

 The TheraVox Exercise Groups

The TheraVox exercises are divided into 5 groups suggesting exercises for 6 different voice and speech parameters. The exercises present differing degrees of difficulty to a patient both whithin the exercise group and from group to group, thus allowing for a step by step therapy program tailored to the specific needs of an individual patient, from simple exercises on loudness/sound presence to advanced exercises on four-phoneme contrast:

 Graphic Design for Patients of All Ages

The offered set of exercises is designed to suit younger as well as older patients. Children will enjoy playing captivating games in different game formats. Neutral game scenes will appeal to older patients. They are meant to teach voice and speech elements the fun way without making older patients feel like children.

Application Areas

The program is designed for application in logopedic voice and speech therapy including logopedic treatment of disabilities like dyslalia, voice disorders, dysarthria, stuttering, phonological impairments and motor planning defecits (apraxia of speech) in patients with aphasia. It is also well suited for logopedic rehabilitation of children and adults with hearing impairments.

Using TheraVox for the Lee Silvermann Voice Treatment (LSVT® ) for patients with Parkinson is a nice tool to exercise and control speech loudness.

Markedly helpful for LSVT®: With the “intensity” module (loudness/sound precense), the patient gets a direct visual feedback on the loudness of his/her voice and a desired target value can be defined. This is very helpful for the therapy of voice disorders especially for children and teenagers as well as for the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment® (LSVT) method.

 Four TheraVox Versions to Meet All Needs

We offer four versions of TheraVox with different cost/performance ratios to satisfy the expectations and requirements of different groups of customers.

TheraVox home and lingWAVES TheraVox: Whereas TheraVox application is not built on modules and is primarily meant for practicing at home, lingWAVES TheraVox is a modular software component of a larger application system lingWAVES, which is developed from a set of analysis and therapy modules. Apart from exercises on loudness, pitch, voicing, voiced/voiceless contrast, voice onset and articulation lingWAVES TheraVox offers the Patient Manager function which includes a high quality recorder for saving and comparing speech samples. The Patient Manager function allows therapists to manage client data, write clinical notes and document therapy progress. lingWAVES TheraVox can be easily extended by adding further analysis and therapy modules.

A  high quality digital Logitech Plug&Play USB-microphone is packaged with the lingWAVES TheraVox and TheraVox home (not TheraVox home 90 days) versions of the software. The high quality microphone will install automatically.

 Software Versions:
 

	TheraVox home TheraVox (voiced/voiceless, loudness/sound presence, pitch, articulation/coarticulation, voice onset, overall 25 exercises). This version is ideal for practicing at home between therapy sessions after a clinician had shown the patient how she/he can work on practicing voice and speech elements with lingWAVES TheraVox or, as the case may be, for practicing at home under adult supervision. This version is packaged with a USB-microphone and is fully functional for an unlimited period of time.
	lingWAVES TheraVox Standard consists of the lingWAVES main user interface with the Patient Manager and Recorder (operations available: record, playback, save, edit by cutting, copying and pasting, zoom) functions extended with the TheraVox module (voiced/voiceless, loudness/sound presence, pitch, articulation, voice onset, overall 25 exercises). lingWAVES TheraVox Standard is extendable with further analysis and therapy modules and is recommended for use in a logopedic service. This version is packaged with a USB-microphone and is fully functional for an unlimited period of time.
	lingWAVES TheraVox Real The lingWAVES TheraVox Real version of the product is identical to the previous one except for a real time spectrography extension, showing the acoustic spectrum of voice. Spectral analysis is especially recommended for use improving accuracy of voice and speech elements in clients with hearing impairments and is ideal for ambitious therapists. This version is packaged with a USB-microphone and is fully functional for an unlimited period of time.

System Requirements

Windows XP or Vista, min. Pentium IV, min. 512 MB (1 GB lingWAVES) RAM, 65 MB free hard disk space, PC-loudspeakers, CD-ROM drive, USB-port for hardware dongle (lingWAVES). All TheraVox sets comes with a USB-microphone.
